Parkesburg Lagged Behind In 2010 Census

When the federal government conducted the once-every-decade census last year as required by the United States Constitution, residents of Parkesburg lagged behind their neighbors and fellow countrymen filling out and returning their census forms.

When compared with 2000 participation most municpalities including Parkesburg dropped a point or two.  Highland Townships stands alone having increased their participation two percentage points in 2010 over their 2000 participation rate.

According to a Washington Post article assessing participation rates across the country last March, a low response rate didn't mean people in those towns were left out of the census -- it just meant the Census Bureau was forced to hire more census takers in those areas with low response rate to count people who failed to participate.

Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser

The Episcopal Church of the Ascension at 400 West Second Avenue across the street from the library is having a Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser on Saturday, February 26th. 

This is a fabulous meal featuring homemade spaghetti sauce, salad, bread,choice of beverage & homemade desserts! 

A suggested donation of $10/person will be accepted at the door. 

Two seatings at 5pm & 6:30pm.

School District Budget Presentation Rescheduled

A new date for the meeting to present the school district's 2011-2012 budget to the public, originally scheduled for January 26th, has been announced.

The meeting has been reschedule for Thursday, February 10th beginning at 7PM in the Middle School Multi-purpose room.
