5th Annual Garden Tour

Saturday, May 31, 2008 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance

Each year the garden tour features 7 to 10 private gardens in the Upper Octorara area. Mel Keen’s wonderful garden on 1^st Avenue is included on this years tour.

This self-drive, self-paced tour takes you to gardens created by passionate gardeners who will surprise you with their motivation and enthusiasm. The number of gardens is limited to encourage you to slow down, allowing yourself enough time in each garden to absorb its unique qualities.

Your ticket is the brochure! Each brochure includes information about each garden, a map to locate them, and information about our sponsors, who make all these programs possible.

Our Parkesburg Fire Company has two events coming up in April. Lets get out and show them how much we appreciate the time and effort the men and women of the fire company give to keep our town and our families safe!

Here is information about each event:

Quarter Auction (Editorial comment... Can someone tell me what a "Quarter Auction" is?

Location: Parkesburg Fire Company Banquet Hall POC: Eileen Montgomery Start Date: 04/05/2008 Duration 1:30 PM to 6:00 PM The Parkesburg Fire Company will be hosting a Quarter Auction on Saturday, April 5th. Doors open at 1:30, auction will start at 2:00. Tickets are $1.00 per auction paddle; additional paddles can be purchased at the door. Bring lots of quarters!

There will be items from 13 different vendors; Noah's Ark Animal Workshop, Avon, Tupperware, Tastefully Simple, Pampered Chef, For Your Pleasure, Premier Design, Go Green, Design Inspired Handbags and accessories, Mary Kay, Home Interior, Enchantment and more. Items will be auctioned off for 1 to 4 quarter bids. As an item comes up for auction, put your quarter in the bid cup and raise your paddle. For more chances to win an item, purchase additional paddles and put more quarters in the bid cup. Chips with corresponding numbers are tossed around in the cage and pulled at random. If your number is pulled and you are holding that numbered paddle up in the air you win the bid. You can win over 90 items plus door prizes!

Spaghetti Dinner (Editorial Comment... I went to the spaghetti dinner last year and the sauce was better than my mother used to make! Please don't tell her I said that.

New Parkesburg Focused Blog

There's a new Parkesburg blog on the scene.

Started in January as an outgrowth of Borough Council's decision to discontinue police service to Atglen, Highland and Avondale, the blog was started to give people frustrated with local politics a chance to vent their feelings.

Its hard to say what the source of this new blog is since the editor as well as most of those commenting on her postings have chossen to remain anonymous. I suspect "ChescoGirl", the blog's editor, as well as most of the posters, don't live in Parkesburg. As a result Parkesburg Tomorrow doesn't have much good to say about the people of Parkesburg or it's Borough Council.

Also of note is the willingness of the blog's editor and commenters to make ridiculous accusations without ever examining the Borough's books for themselves or attending Council's monthly Finance Committee meetings to get a first hand understanding of the Borough's financial status. Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion but not their own facts. Their commentary on Parkesburg's happenings would be so much more interesting and noteworthy if they took the time to get all the facts before forming their views.
