Girls' JV Soccer is also at 11:30 at the PLC.
OCTFAN - No one is being humiliated. It IS a soccer field. It is not a football field. It is not a field hockey field. It is not a lacrosse field. Football tears up a grass field. There are still dangerous dirt spots on the field from when football played on the field last year. This is a safety issue.
One of the agreements when football was approved was that they would never play on the soccer field. Another was that they build their own field.
Sorry, I would guess the field does not legally belong to the soccer team - it belongs to the school district. If it truly "belongs" to the soccer team, then I hope they're paying the electric for the lights and concession stand, insurance, maintenance of the field and benches.
Can't the football team play after school and not at night? The JV football team does. They play all of their football games after school behind the PLC. Money has been no object for the football team so far......#1 They went to Big Springs for a game. BIG SPRINGS! that is below Carlisle. Then they paid Solanco School District $1200 to use their field when Pequa was having a problem with their lights. And the school is going to pay to transport the team back to Pequa for a "home game" againt Haverford! 2 of these instances are just so the team can play at night. And The Pequa game and the Haverford game were HOME GAMES!
To set the record straight. The soccer club does not pay for the electricity, but they did pay for the lights and installation a sizable amount of money. The soccer club paid to have the concession stand erected another sizable amount of money. The soccer club paid to have the irrigation system istalled on the field a sizable amount of mooney. The soccer club maintained the field for many years up until the school started a few years ago. The soccer club did not make the decision about the cancellation of the football game, the administration did. The soccer teams are having their schedules rearranged to accomodate the football game for primetime.
There seems to be some misconception about the field usage. The soccer team does not dictate who is allowed/not allowed to use the field. They actually have no say in this.....if they did, I'm sure they wouldn't choose to have their teams playing during a time when many of their players are previously committed to the SAT test. The administration determines who will play on the field and when.
When a donation is made to an organization (or in this case, school district) it does not give the donor any say in how the facilities are to be used. Once you give the donation to the organization, that is the end of your control. It is their decision to use the donation in their best interest. That's great that the boosters raised money but bottom line is the concession stand, lights, field - everything - legally belongs to the district and the club legally has no say in how it gets used after they donated it. That would be like saying you made a cash donation to the public library and told them which books to buy or gave money to a local fire company and told them what equipment to buy. When you make a gift, that's the end of your say.
