Octorara's Class of 2011

This Friday night 204 area youth will become the latest in the long line of students to graduate from Octorara Area High School.

Of those 204 students, 15 seniors have decided to enlist in one of the branches of the United States armed services with five joining the Army, a similar number enlisting in the Marines, one graduate joining the Navy and two enlisting in the National Guard. 

69 graduating seniors are heading to a one or two year community college or technical school programs  The most popular school choice of schools by those selecting this path is Delaware County Community College (29) in Media followed by Harrisburg Area Community College (8) and Lancaster General College (3).

A total of 86 Octorara seniors will head to a four year college this Fall. The most popular college of choice is Penn State with 11 Octorara students matriculating at Penn State and Millersville State University a close second at 7 students.  Many seniors selected 4 year schools nearby including the University of Pennsylvania (2), West Chester (1), University of Delaware (1) and Alvernia (3) and Albright (1) in Reading.  Other students chose far away places like Duke (1) in North Carolina, the University of Pittsburgh on the other side of the state (1), Boston College (2) in New England and one senior is going all the way across the country to San Diego State University (1).

Finally, 33 students will forgo the college and military experience in favor of a job and a pay check.

Whatever their path the entire Octorara community salutes the 204 graduating seniors and wish them all the best of luck along the way.
