According to Borough Council President Mel Keen, the current trash facts Parkesburg residents need to keep in mind are:
- Garbage gets dumped at the highest rate per ton.
- Yard Waste cost the borough less per ton than garbage does.
- Recycling is commingled and currently part of a grant program that pays the Borough by the ton once a year.
- Scrap Metal is taken to the scrap yard for cash.
Generally speaking residents should have twice as much recycling as garbage. It is a hard concept for some who are used to the old system where most trash went out with the "garbage".
All freezer boxes and containers go in recycling as does junk mail and newspapers.
Cardboard boxes should be flattened and put out with recycling.
Borough trash collectors get a lot of recycling in plastic bags. This is a big NO-NO! Putting recycling in trash bags takes a lot of time (and money) for collector to open and dump the recycled wast into the correct pile.
And for those who still have questions about what to put out when, here's the official Borough Trash rule sheet:
Parkesburg Borough Trash Guide
The Borough doesn’t pay to dump recycling! When you recycle you help hold the line on trash fees.
