Remembering Annie Groff Rice

Officer Edgar Rice

Over the weekend area residents remembered the horrific death of officer Edgar Rice and his accused killer Zachariah Walker in a murder/lynching a century ago.

This morning, a take on the incident from a voice often forgotten in the discussion of the event and its impact; Annie Groff Rice, Edgar Rice's wife.

In her blog Genealogical Gems!, Jeanne Eckmann asks who was Annie and what became of her after her husband's untimely death.
Annie Groff Rice was the wife of T. Edgar Rice, the policeman shot by Zachariah Walker.  In most accounts, understandably so, everyone focuses on Rice or Walker, but everyone neglects the widow Rice and her five children.
