On Saturday Parkesburg Today asked readers to identify the location of the building pictured above.
The Turkey Hill now occupies the corner where the Amaco station pictured above once sat. |
Until its demolition in the 1950's the building stood on the southeast corner of the intersection of Route 10 and 372, where the Turkey Hill Convenience store now stands.
In the 1940's, when this picture was taken, the Amaco station motorists could but gas, have their windshield cleaned and their oil checked, never leaving their car.
Ice cream, cigarettes, and soda were sold inside the little building in the background.
Evelyn Townsend was the first to guess the correct location so she'll receive two tickets to next week's Lions Club Circus.
Congratulations Evelyn!
And thank you to Gerry Treadway for the picture and background on the station.
