The Library Needs Our Help

To Our Patrons, Friends, Supporters and Residents in our Service Area:

It has become quite evident that our elected officials in Harrisburg no longer view the State’s Library System a vital part of our children’s educational experience. State funding for the Parkesburg Library peaked at $86,356.00 in 2007, it was reduced to $58,806.00 in 2010 and is projected to be $50,790.00 in 2011.

In addition we have seen reductions in funding at the County level as well. On the positive side of the ledger, support from our local governments has been more consistent than not. With economic projections continuing to be dismal, this may not be the case in 2011 or beyond.

What does all this mean for the Parkesburg Library? For the fiscal year ending December 31, 2010 we will be facing a budget deficit currently projected to be $31,817.00. As we work on our budget for 2011, the projected deficit is $32,899.00 and could easily grow.

Your continuing support through our many events; Annual Golf Outing, Christmas in and Around Parkesburg, Garden Tour, New York Bus Trip and of course our Book Sales is greatly appreciated. Sadly though, we are experiencing a decline in participation at these events.

We are now asking of each and every one of you to review your personal budgets and see if you can assist our Board of Directors in raising the additional funds needed to offset these deficits. Should we fall short in our goal to raise the needed funds, we will be faced with no other choice but to reduce hours, materials, services and programs.

As always, we cannot thank you enough for your continuing support!

Sincerely,

The Parkesburg Library Board of Directors
