Gap Alfalfa Field Provides "Soft" Landing for Father, Daughter Duo

A father and his 9 year old daughter were uninjured Saturday afternoon when their single engine plane made an unscheduled landing in an alfalfa field in Sadsbury Township, Lancaster County.

The pilot Bill Wills and his daughter, Jessie, were flying from Smoketown Airport on Route 340 in Lancaster County to New Garden Airport in southern Chester County when the aircraft experienced mechanical problems.

Happy to be alive, the experience isn't one Jessie will soon forget.

Westwood Fire, Ambulance and Rescue along with Sadsburyville Fire, Washington Hose (Coatesville) Ambulance and Brandywine Medic 93 were all dispatched to the Chester County Airport for a possible aircraft in distress. When it was determined that the aircraft had landed about "ten miles west of the airport in Lancaster County" the companies were recalled. Nice response from all providers - Jack M.
