Former Parkesburg Auditor and Treasurer Dies

Harold George White of Parkesburg Harold George White, 87, of Parkesburg, passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at the Brandywine Hospital.

Born in Parkesburg, he was the son of the late George L. and Edith Walpole White.

Harold graduated from the Parkesburg High School in 1941. He was a Parkesburg resident his entire life and served as the Borough Auditor for 15 years and the Borough Treasurer for 20 years.

Wendy Keegan, current Borough Secretary, remembered Harold Friday recalling fondly how Harold took her under his wings when she got the job at Borough Hall and taught her everything she needed to know about running the Borough.

Harold served honorably in the U.S. Army during WWII as a Technician in the 86th Infantry Division, 343rd Regimen. He earned the Bronze Star.

He retired from Lukens Steel in 1982, where he worked in the Metallurgical Dept. for 40 years.

Harold was a lifetime member of the Parkesburg Methodist Church, the Parkesburg VFW Post 4480, the Brandywine-Goddard Lodge #383 and the Parkesburg Fire Co.

He is survived by his two children, Cynthia Frederick, wife of Thomas, of Brandamore, and Chris White of Aqua Dulce, Calif.; his wife, JoAnn Slaymaker White; three stepchildren; and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Betty Stoner.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main Street, Parkesburg. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation, which will take place from 10 until 10:50 a.m., at which time a Masonic Service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkesburg Methodist Church, 411 Main St., Parkesburg, Pa. 19365.
