Parkesburg Blowup Doll Runs Boston Marathon

Put this in the 'You can't make this stuff up' category.

From a Boston area paper yesterday a report about Marathon runner Nancy Stolzfus of Parkesburg who took a blow-up doll dressed as her friend Kathie Redmond of Coatesville with her to Boston this past weekend to run in Monday's Boston Marathon.

Registration to run the marathon closed so quickly on the Internet last October that even veteran runners like Redmond were denied coveted running slots.

So Stolzfus, who didn't want to run the marathon without her best friend, purchased a blowup doll off the Internet, dressed it up in her friend's running clothes, even pasted a picture of her friend's face on the doll, and took her/it to Boston last weekend.

While the doll had a good time partying in the run-up to the Marathon, 'she/it' proved too heavy for Stolzfus to carry the 26.2 mile distance and instead watched Nancy run the race from the comforts of a shuttle bus.
