Parkesburg Point Helps At-Risk Youth

This article from The Daily Local from January 2010 discusses the truly wonderful work Dwayne Walton and area churches are doing with Parkesburg's youth at The Point on Main Street.

PARKESBURG — Dwayne Walton's New Year's resolution is simple: Continue the work he's doing, only in a bigger way.

For seven years, the Parkesburg Point Youth Center's volunteer staff has been reaching out to young people in an attempt to steer at-risk youth onto the right path and keep them there.

Walton is the director of this center.

On any given night, 50 to 60 local young people between ages 8 and 18 come to the donation-funded, Christian-oriented youth center to participate in various programs. Most come voluntarily, but there are a few who come as part of court-ordered community service in lieu of a fine.

Walton hopes the youths serving their time get a glimpse of a more positive lifestyle.
