A Trek Through Wolf’s Hollow County Park

By Magdalena Stuehrmann

Wolf’s Hollow County Park is the newest of the Chester County Parks. Located in Atglen on Schoff Road, this beautiful new park opened in December of 2010.

Wolf’s Hollow is a strikingly beautiful park, located on 569 acres and containing miles of hiking trails. In the winter, the hill leading down from the parking lot is a wonderful sledding hill – as long as you don’t overshoot and land in the frozen stream at the bottom!

In the summer, the miles of hiking trails lead through beautiful stretches of shady forests and sunny meadows. Though some of the trails leading up the hills in the forested areas can be rather steep, the climb is worth it. Taking the trek up these hills leads to wonderful views of the Octoraro Creek, several small waterfalls and ponds and some intriguing ruins.

The trails are not paved, and can be rough in some areas, and are not suitable for hikers whose knees are not up to walking across rocky areas.  However, there is a stretch of paved road lined with trees that goes through some of the forested areas, past several meadow areas and is certainly worth the walk.

Some points of interest are the waterfall on the Waterfall Trail, the ruins near the Octoraro Creek, and the Gap Overlook, though there are numerous beautiful areas along all the trails that lead through the park.

Wolf’s Hollow is truly a gem, hidden in the hills of Chester County. Its wild beauty rivals that of Hibernia Park, and its well-tended forest and meadow paths lead a hiker through areas of flowers, trees, grasses and berry bushes that rival Longwood Gardens in wild elegance.

Wolf’s Hollow is well worth the hike!

To get to Wolf's Hollow County Park from Parkesburg:
  • Take Route 10 South toward Cochranville and Oxford
  • At the top of the hill outside of town turn right on Highland Road
  • Cross over Route 41, remaining on Highland Road
  • At Baily Crossroads Road turn left
  • Make a quick right on to Schoff Road
  • The entrance to Wolf's Hollow County Park is 1/2 mile past Moccasin Run Golf Course

You might want to change the directions so they are spelled correctly. 1st - You cross over 41 no pass over. 2nd - it is Bailey Cross Road not Crossing Road. 3rd - I believe there is only one park so it should read Wolfs Hollow Park, not Parks.

I stand corrected as does the post!

BTW, you missed one misspelling in my original directions. I've since corrected it so there's nothing left to do but enjoy Magdalena's wonderful description of Wolf's Hollow County Park!
